Grinder Pump Repair and Maintenance

At Central MO All Service Plumbing we specialize in grinder pump service and repair. Your grinder pump is the waste management unit, a cutting device, that is located at a most commonly located at low location in your yard or sometimes in a basement in a holding tank. It is designed to used with toilets, tubs and showers, dishwashers, washing machines, etc. that produce water. The grinder pump turns waste that is carried by water into a kind of slurry that is then moved through the sewer or septic system. Grinder Pumps can become easily blocked with dirt and debris. We even once found a walnut blocking a pump! Also foreign objects, such as ropes, strings, diapers, tampons, toys, etc., that are flushed, can damage pumps.

Some Big Culprits In Grinder Pump Clogs

With over 25 years experience grinder pump repair and maintenance at Central MO All Service Plumbing have seen just about every grinder pump clog known. Some of the most common reasons for grinder pumps to clog is that people throw things down the toilet that just don't belong! We never mean to be indelicate but if it isn't one of the Three Ps - Pee, Poop, or (Toilet) Paper, don't flush it. (Check out the You Tube video below to see what the city of Washington DC has to say about the subject.) That goes for the so-called "Flushable Wipes" also...DON'T FLUSH THEM, THEY ARE NOT REALLY FLUSHABLE; they do not process through the grinder pumps the same as toilet paper and will clog them up. Here is a list of big no-no's for your lift station...

  • Cleaning Wipes
  • Baby Wipes
  • Bathroom Wipes (even if they say they are flushable!)
  • Disposable Diapers
  • Q-Tips
  • Feminine Sanitary Products including Tampons (even if they say they are flushable - the strings clog the pumps!)
  • Cloth Rags, Towels, and Diapers
  • Undergarments
  • Condoms
